The brief
Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) has been at the heart of Brighton & Hove for 100 years, captivating audiences with exceptional performances.
Currently celebrating their 100th season, their mission is clear: to bring classical music to everyone and ensure it continues to thrive for future generations.
Social Firefly has proudly partnered with BPO to support this vision, helping them expand their reach, attract new audiences, and shine a spotlight on Brighton & Hove’s local professional orchestra, renowned for their commitment to delivering high-quality music.

The challenge
BPO faced several key challenges:
- Reaching new audiences – including families and students.
- Increasing memberships – vital for fostering long-term support.
- Boosting ticket sales – ensuring diverse audiences attend concerts.
- Raising awareness – some residents were unaware Brighton & Hove had its own professional orchestra.
We were more than happy to help the BPO team overcome them. Read on to find out how.
Our approach
To achieve these goals, Social Firefly developed a multi-channel strategy that leveraged creative tactics and data-driven insights:
- Theme-driven content creation: we designed engaging social media themes to highlight BPO’s performances and community role.
- Platform-specific strategies:
- Instagram: focused on reaching new audiences through vibrant content, Instagram Stories, and Reels. Collaboration posts with partners amplified their reach further.
- Facebook and X (Twitter) : Delivered more traditional content, appealing to older audiences and existing members.
- Google Grant activation: we set up the account and set about ensuring BPO could take advantage of as much of the grant money available to them as a charity. Campaigns using high traffic search terms boosted visibility. Alongside this, optimising for ad strength and optimisation score helped improve impact and cost-efficiency throughout the season.
- Video content: shared performance highlights and behind-the-scenes footage to captivate audiences and encourage engagement.
- Spotify campaigns: tested audio ads to tap into a completely new demographic and introduce classical music to casual listeners.
- Paid strategy optimisation: focused on video ads to boost reach while significantly lowering costs.

The results
The strategy delivered outstanding results, with a clear impact across all key metrics (measuring Sep 2023 – Oct 2024 vs the same period last year):
- 92% increase in social media engagement – driving meaningful interactions.
- 150% increase in website traffic – fuelled by social media and Google Ads.
- 80% decrease in cost per landing page view – making campaigns more cost-effective.
Most impressively, these efforts contributed to a double-digit growth in ticket sales, as estimated by BPO.
Looking ahead
With the end of the centenary season on the horizon, Social Firefly is excited to continue supporting BPO in their mission to make classical music accessible to everyone. Future plans include expanding their reach on new platforms including Threads, and renewing a focus on LinkedIn to connect with local audiences in a creative and engaging way.
We’re honoured to play a part in celebrating 100 years of exceptional music and ensuring Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra’s legacy continues to inspire.
“Social Firefly’s work has been transformative, helping us reach new audiences and grow ticket sales during this pivotal season.”
