Spring Clean Your Social Channels

The sun is (finally) starting to shine, and as that brings new energy to the day, it’s also the perfect time to spruce up your social media presence.

Here are our top tips to boost your discoverability, strengthen security and make sure your profiles are still working hard for your business.

1. Check security and admin access

Start with the basics. Review who has admin access to your accounts, update passwords and make sure two-factor authentication (2FA) is enabled wherever possible. Businesses evolve, team members move on, and agencies change, so it’s important to ensure only the right people still have access.

💡 Pro tip: Make sure at least two trusted people have full admin access to your accounts so there’s always someone who can step in if things change.

2. Review your social media handles

One common mistake is using different handles across platforms. When your @username varies too much, it can make it harder for people to find you. Take a few minutes to review your handles and aim for consistency wherever possible. Even small tweaks can improve discoverability.

💡 Pro tip: If you update your handle, remember to update it on your website, in your email signature, and in any printed marketing materials.

3. Optimise your profile names with keywords

Social media platforms are increasingly search-driven. Adding relevant keywords to your profile name can help people discover you more easily, particularly on Instagram and LinkedIn.

For example, instead of just your brand name, consider adding what you do:

Brand Name | Social Media Agency

Brand Name | Youth Charity

4. Refresh your bios

Your bio is often the first thing people read when they land on your profile. Make sure it clearly explains what you do, who you help and why someone should follow you. If it hasn’t been updated in a while, challenge yourself to rewrite it so it’s concise, clear and aligned with your current offering.

5. Check your links

While refreshing your profiles, double-check that all your links are up to date. Broken links or outdated campaigns can make a brand look inactive. If you’re using a “link in bio” on Instagram, make sure it links to something relevant – not an event that happened months ago. It’s also worth reviewing the “About” section on Facebook and LinkedIn to ensure everything is current.

6. Refresh your design templates

Your visual style can quietly date over time. Take a moment to review the templates you use for posts, carousels and stories. Do they still reflect your brand and feel current? Refreshing colours, typography or layouts can instantly lift your content and help your posts feel more cohesive and recognisable in the feed.

7. Review highlights and pinned posts

Take a look at what sits at the top of your profile. Instagram Highlights and pinned posts are prime real estate for new visitors. Make sure they’re still relevant, up to date and providing value. If they no longer reflect your current offers, services or messaging, it’s time for a refresh.

A quick spring clean like this only takes 20 minutes, but it can make your social channels more secure, easier to find and much more effective.
